Printer’s Chop

Used as early as the Han dynasty (around 200 BCE), the printer’s chop is a stamp used by a printer or shop to sign a finished piece. In my printmaking course this week, we are working on creating our own printer’s chops to use on our chinese new-year inspired woodcut prints. My chop comes from my tagname “LAKE”.
For the print itself, I wanted to create an image that reflects the coming of the year of the Tiger for my sign, the Rabbit. For the Rabbit, this heralds a growth-oriented year, one of risk-taking and change. This rings true for me, as I have just moved to a new city two months ago, and am on the track to pursue finishing my degree. I drew the Rabbit (me) in my new apartment, studying.
