Self-Portraits
I created these three self-portraits for my drawing course. I was challenged to draw from three different angles of my face: straight-on, profile, and from above. I chose to use different mediums for each to experiment a little.
For the above view, I used a diluted blue ink spray to build up the background texture before using a hatching technique with pen to construct the portrait itself.
For the profile view, I drew the portrait first in pencil, then added a dark ink wash over cardboard as the background, and added a few dashes of color to the bandanna, warm points of the face, and eye. when all was done, I darkened up some of the lines and angles with pen to create a better contrast .
For the front-on view, I used a stick of charcoal and a hatching tecnique to draw the face plainly. I can be resistant to charcoal. I like the way it looks, but I do not like to smudge. It was a great tool to create varying levels of contrast, even without smudging, and I am very pleased with how it turned out!
